microsoft called it the xbox one because they wanted people to refer to it as “the one”, which was entirely marketing shit to make people want to buy xbox instead of playstation. certain lets players at the time that microsoft endorsed started calling it “the one” as well, to try and get that to catch on.

so i work with mewtwo

i was chatting with one of my coworkers today. he asked me if i was going to school, i told him and he mentioned that it was his alma mater too, he majored in theater. he’s around my parents’ age and i asked him if he knew my mom (theater minor). he didn’t recognize the name but he said she might recognize him because he’s on the hall of fame. and i replied “oh, cool! have you been in anything i might have seen?” and he rattled off some TV roles and then dropped the fucking bomb on me saying “oh, i did some voice acting for cartoons a while back, i was in the english version of the pokemon movie. i was mewtwo, haha.”

i work with mewtwo i’m rattled.

he also was super casual about the fact that there was a rumor going around that he’d straight up died because he used a psuedonym (philip bartlett) due to union rules and wasn’t invited back for the subsequent pokemon movies and people started spreading rumors that “philip” had died and it was years after the fact that people discovered that he was actually named jay goede and jay goede is alive and well and fucking works with me
this isn’t even the weirdest part of the story. not only is he mewtwo, he’s been in theater productions in minneapolis (where i live) and after work i googled him and found out that he was the starring role in a musical at the minneapolis children’s theater called “a year with frog and toad” in the winter of 2004, a show that i attended, and my parents purchased a CD of, one that i still own to this day and play for myself all the time

so my coworker, Jay Goede, mother fucking Mewtwo, has been serenading me for 14 years.
